The African American Male Wellness Agency (AAMWA) once again making strides to safeguard the health and well-being of Black men with its annual Black Men’s Wellness Day over the weekend. This year’s event, hosted at Perfecting Church in Detroit and featuring the inspirational leadership of Pastor Marvin Winans, was a day of empowerment, education, and, most importantly, community unity.
Teaming up with Pastor Marvin Winans, Pastor of Perfecting Church, a well-respected spiritual leader and gospel artist, AAMWA managed to draw in almost 500 participants. The morning session was packed with diverse activities aimed at involving and enlightening the community. Attendees enjoyed browsing through numerous vendor booths, participating in the kids’ zone activities, and participating in a 5K Walk/Run, creating a dynamic and engaging event for all.
“We are honored to host the Black Men’s Wellness Day at Perfecting Church. If we could just save one life, then all of this was worth it,” Winans said.
The free health screenings were a significant highlight of the event. More than 200 men participated in the screenings, which covered a wide range of health issues. These screenings are essential for early detection and prevention of health problems, and they align with AAMWA’s mission to enhance health outcomes for Black men.
John and Pamela Gregory, who established AAMWA, have stated that their aim has consistently been to tackle the distinct health obstacles encountered by Black men since its establishment in 2004.
“Black Men’s Wellness Day embodies our vision of community support and proactive health management. We are thrilled with the turnout and the positive impact this event has on the lives of so many men, “John and Pamela Gregory said.
The African American Men’s Wellness Agency (AAMWA) continues to be unwavering in its commitment to advancing the health and well-being of Black men. Through a three-pronged approach encompassing education, awareness, and active community involvement, AAMWA strives to create sustainable improvements in the lives of Black men.
The overwhelmingly positive outcome of this year’s Black Men’s Wellness Day stands as a compelling testament to the vital importance of such programs in promoting a healthier and more resilient future for Black men throughout the country.
President of AAMWA, Kenny R. Hampton, emphasized that the goal of AAMWA is to promote the health and wellness of Black men to save their lives.
“Black Men’s Wellness Day is an opportunity for the community to come together, enjoy some fun activities, and take advantage of essential health screenings,” Hampton said.
“Black men are dying from preventable diseases, and what we’re saying is, not on our watch! This event is a step towards ensuring that our community thrives.”
Partners such as Johnson & Johnson, GILEAD, Genentech, Henry Ford Health, and others made this event possible.
