LeMarcus Newman Named Executive Director of African American Male Wellness Agency Houston
Houston, Texas — The African American Male Wellness Agency (AAMWA) has named LeMarcus Newman as Executive Director of AAMWA Houston, bringing a longtime community leader, mentor and advocate into a role focused on improving the health and wellness of Black men and their families.
In his new role, Newman will lead AAMWA Houston’s community engagement, partnerships and wellness initiatives, including Black Men’s Wellness Day, Real Men Real Talk, and Uplift Her, which provides Black men and women with free health screenings, wellness resources and opportunities to prioritize preventive health.
“LeMarcus understands the power of community and the importance of building relationships that create lasting impact,” said Kenny R. Hampton, president of AAMWA. “His leadership and commitment to service make him an excellent fit to lead AAMWA Houston.”
A Houston native, Newman brings experience spanning professional football, community development, youth mentorship, higher education, international relations and government. A former professional athlete, Newman has carried his commitment to service beyond athletics. Previously, he served as a program manager for Change Happens’ My Brother’s Keeper initiative, supported by the Obama Foundation. He also served at Texas Southern University and as a GS-13 with the U.S. Department of Defense.
“I’m honored to lead AAMWA Houston and serve the community that helped shape me,” said Newman. “I want to make sure Black men and women have the resources and support they need to prioritize their health and get checked out, not checked in.”
Newman will work with elected officials, healthcare providers, community organizations, corporations, faith-based organizations and civic leaders to expand AAMWA Houston’s reach and create more opportunities for Black men and their families to access health and wellness resources.
