To promote and encourage fatherhood among African American men to be strong fathers overall and enthusiastically engaged in their child’s life.
WHAT WE KNOW
We know that families are the foundation of a healthy community. The Fatherhood Initiative is committed to encouraging and empowering Black men to be strong fathers and engaged in their child’s life.
Through our program, Calling All Dads, we provide dedicated support for Black fathers to improve their emotional health, financial stability, physical fitness, employment, and education. We also provide support and resources to childcare facilities and schools in Franklin County.
With 76% of Black children not being kindergarten ready, we provide resources and support to help fathers build strong, positive relationships with their children, fostering healthier families and communities.
Our Programs
Fatherhood Events and Organizations
Due to 73% of children in Franklin County not being kindergarten ready prior to attending school, Calling All Dads was established by the NAAMWA to provide a solution to underperforming counties in Ohio. Calling All Dads is a multi-purpose project in which we engage non-star rated child care centers throughout Franklin County in an effort to assist them with earning their Step Up to Quality star rating while also providing fathers training and resources to help them prepare their children to be kindergarten ready. We also support dads with children of all age groups encouraging them to support child education, explore child education careers and to build better relationships with their children.

Cooking with Dad is a special event that teaches fathers and their children how to make healthy meals together. The event features interactive healthy cooking demonstrations with local and national celebrity chefs, swag bags filled with goodies, and group wellness exercises.

Proud Dad Cookout
The Proud Dad Cookout celebrates active fathers through a fun event with kid's activities, a BBQ cookout, and family bonding.

The Fatherhood Coalition is a network of organizations dedicated to supporting fathers and building strong families throughout the nation. We help reduce the barriers that challenge men’s ability to be involved with and/or support their children. We provide resources such as case management, 21st century career coaching and pathway training, child support services, supportive services, workforce solutions and legal support. Calling All Dads provides free Kindergarten Readiness Kits to parents and can administer practice Kindergarten Readiness Exams to your students. We also collaborate with your facility or school to boost your Step Up to Quality Rating and enhance your services through tailored resources and support.

Calling All Dads is led by dads, for dads just like you. You gain access to valuable fatherhood resources, events, giveaways, merchandise, contests, and activities through the Fatherhood Initiative. The Calling All Dads team will also help you become more successful, through programs geared towards:

When you take the Proud Dad Pledge, you vow to be active in your child’s life. You promise to:
- Ensure your child has access to quality childcare
- Read with your child or children
- Take a break from electronics
- Be active with your child or children
