Mental Health

Monthly, hundreds of Black men attend Real Men Real Talk, which includes dinner, an impactful conversation led by agency leadership, brotherhood, and healing in a safe atmosphere. Because of the agency’s commitment to holding national monthly RMRT events, a core group of Black men consistently gather and receive Talk Therapy.

What We know

Mental health challenges are an often silent crisis within the Black community, particularly among Black men. Stigma, cultural barriers, and a lack of access to resources prevent many from seeking the help they need.

  • Black Americans faced a 58% increase in suicide rates between 2011 and 2021 with suicide being the third leading cause of death for Black Americans between the ages 15 to 24 in 2020.
  • Black men experience disproportionate rates of depression, anxiety, and trauma, yet often lack access to culturally competent mental health care.
