More than 50,000 people gathered for Black Men’s Wellness Day in Columbus, where actor Jonathan Majors became one of the attendees taking a closer look at his skin health through a screening provided as part of AAMWA’s partnership with Eli Lilly and Company.

“It’s important to get screened,” said Majors. “Your skin is, whether you know it or not, the largest organ on your body.”

The screening was part of Beyond the Surface, a national dermatological health awareness and navigation initiative launched by AAMWA and embedded within its 2026 Black Men’s Wellness Day Tour.

Majors voluntarily participated in the screening, stepping inside a Lilly Mobile Research Unit (LMRU) stationed at Black Men’s Wellness Day to receive a skin screening.

Majors said the experience reinforced the importance of paying attention to changes in his skin. He recalled being concerned about a scar that his doctor ultimately determined was harmless, but said she recommended that he follow up with a dermatologist. He said he plans to make that appointment and encourage his wife, Meagan Good, to do the same when they return to Los Angeles.

Beyond the Surface is designed to address dermatological health disparities in underserved communities by raising awareness, providing skin-health education and connecting residents with health-related social needs, resources and care.

“It has been an amazing opportunity for Lilly to be a sponsor,” said Miatta Kargbo, executive director at Eli Lilly and Company.

Kargbo said seeing so many Black men come together to prioritize their health was incredible and praised AAMWA for creating a space where they could do so.

The partnership advances AAMWA’s longstanding “Get Checked Out, Not Checked In” message, encouraging Black men and their families to make preventive health part of their routine rather than waiting until a health concern becomes serious.

“Through Beyond the Surface, we are bringing dermatological health education, screenings and navigation directly into communities that have historically faced disparities in access to care,” said Kenny R. Hampton, president of AAMWA. “Our partnership with Lilly allows us to bring the mobile research unit directly into those communities, where AAMWA’s relationships and reach can help connect people with the care and resources they need.”
